Is Romwe Legit?

48/100
Trust Score

Romwe is owned by Shein and uses the same supply chain and manufacturing. All of Shein's concerns about labour practices, data privacy, and quality inconsistency apply equally here. It is not an outright scam and does deliver products, but there are significant concerns UK consumers should understand before buying.

The actual situation

Romwe is a fast fashion brand owned and operated by Zoetop Business Co. Ltd — the same Chinese parent company that owns Shein. The two brands share manufacturing infrastructure, supply chains, and in many cases, identical or near-identical inventory. Romwe is effectively a slightly cheaper alternative to Shein, positioned to capture a different segment of the ultra-budget fashion market. In practice, many products appear on both platforms under different names but with the same underlying garment. This means that every concern applicable to Shein — supply chain ethics, data privacy under Chinese law, sizing inconsistency — applies equally to Romwe.

Romwe launched in 2010, predating Shein's international expansion, and has maintained an independent brand identity and website even under common ownership. Orders are processed and products do generally arrive, which distinguishes it from more problematic platforms like Joom or Wish. However, UK customers report the same pattern of complaints seen with Shein — items arriving significantly smaller than UK size equivalents, product quality below what photographs suggest, and customs charges arriving with delivery. Returns are managed via Romwe's own portal, and while the process exists, it is frequently reported as slow and frustrating.

For UK consumers choosing between Romwe and Shein, the practical differences are minimal. Romwe sometimes has slightly lower base prices, but the overall experience — quality, sizing accuracy, and data privacy implications — is essentially the same. If you choose to use either platform, use the website rather than the app, pay by credit card for Section 75 protection, and use a separate email address to limit data exposure. Neither platform is recommended over UK-registered alternatives such as ASOS, Boohoo or Vinted (for second-hand). Romwe is a better choice than Joom, Wish or Zaful, but it is not a platform we recommend proactively.
